I sometimes watch the Glenn Beck show just for fun to see how crazy he is.
Last night, he had the actor who played "coach" on television who made an impassioned case for why he might not pay taxes anymore.
The problem with passion is that it doesn't always make sense. The actor said he doesn't want to pay for programs he doesn't agree with. He wants to fund veterans programs and education for his grandkids, but has problems with other programs he didn't specify.
I'm sure most Democrats were not happy when George W. Bush doubled the national debt. Many Americans were not happy that we enetered a war under false pretenses that has costs us thousands of lives and trillions of dollars in immediate, replacement, and long-term care costs.
If Democrats had been on television promoting the idea of withholding tax payments as a way to protest the policies of George W. Bush, the Republicans would have shouted from the rooftops that the unpatriotic fools should be put in jail or kicked out of the country.
Tonight, Glenn Beck did another show about the possibility of not paying taxes. He seemed careful never to make a direct call for people to withhold their tax payments, but he talked about in a way that promoted the concept.
Some of the people who watch Glenn Beck are the type of people who would get worked up enough and be stubborn enough to actually follow his lead and stop paying taxes. This is a bad idea. The fines and jail time will hurt the people much more than the government.
Why is Glenn Beck trying to get his viewers to make bad decisions?
Why is Glenn Beck trying to lead people to use illegal and non-democratic means to hurt or change the government?
Why do Republicans seem to demand patriotic loyalty to the nation only when a Republican is in the White House?
