Economics & Personal Finance

Well, it was announced today that the United States lost close to a half million jobs last month. It was also announced that the national unemployment rate is now close to 9 and a half percent.

The reason I wanted to write something about this is because the numbers don't do justice to the reality. It wasn't just a half million jobs that were lost. It was millions of jobs being lost with millions fo jobs being gained that resulted in a net loss of a half million jobs.

For the millions of people who found a job, this was a good month. However, there is a good chance that the new job has a lower wage compared o their last job. They now have no seniority and are at the bottom of the totem pole - which is not good if jobs need to be cut in the future.

For the millions who lost a job last month, their worst fears have come true. They no longer have the income they once had. They are probably about to lose their healthcare. There probably is a sense of panic, fear, and failure.

It wasn't just a half million people who lost their jobs last month. It was millions.
